Update on SpID use in Harmston, and strategies to address the speed, size and volume of traffic
We currently have two posts/locations for the use of a SpID (speed indicator device). One is on Church Lane (pictured), and the other is on Vicarage Lane.
The Parish Council own one device, and the other is shared with other local villages as part of a scheme. This device therefore is not permanently used by us. It is currently based in another village, and we await our turn once others have had theirs.
This means we currently only have one device. We have moved the HPC device to Vicarage Lane to replace the scheme device leaving, for now, the Church Lane post empty.
The SpIDs can be rotated on their post to face in either direction, and moved between posts.
Our research showed us that by relocating, rotating and randomly changing these factors, it helps the device(s) be more effective, as drivers will not just expect the device(s) to always be in the same place.
We have had some wonderful feedback from residents about how the devices have had a positive impact, especially on the speed of vehicles through the village.
We have used the data to work with County Councillor Carrington, Highways and the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership in our aim to address the issue of the size, speed and volume of traffic in Harmston.
In addition we have added some signs to remind drivers of the speed limit, particularly on High Street. We are aware one of these signs has been broken, and this will be replaced once we have a replacement.
We wanted to reassure you that the second SpiD will reappear once it is our turn, and in the interim we will continue to randomly move/rotate our own SpID.
We are also bringing together a team of volunteers to create a Community Speedwatch Group. Please visit this page https://harmston.parish.lincolnshire.gov.uk/council-business/traffic-strategies/3 for more details and email the http://clerk@harmston.info if you would like to get involved.
